Clean up after shows 2007/09/16 08:21 Karma: 5
This is an open letter to anyone and everyone, but specifically to the directors.

I have noticed (especially lately) that cast members of shows have been leaving their props, personal belongings, and trash everywhere. A whole table's worth of (fake?) jewelry was left back stage this week, along with a ton of other stuff. In addition, there were two completely full trash bins of crap, including FOOD. In fact, there was a box of melted popsicles!! I spent about 30 minutes after my show tonight cleaning up the greenroom.

I would like to ask all directors to not only strongly encourage their actors to take all their stuff home but also the clean up after them. I think directors should be responsible for emptying all the trash bins after a show, as well as searching for props that people left. After Monty Pythong show nights, I was constantly finding props left back stage and in the green room. In addition, if we leave food sitting around in the trash, we will attract more bugs... and we don't want that.

To Chris and Amanda - I know that some directors aren't going to read this post, so please make sure to pass this along to them.

Sorry for the rant everyone, but I really want to keep the theatre consistently clean as much as possible.

Here! Here! I am tired of our theatre being called "getto." Sorry Morgan and I haven't been able to chip in over the last two weeks but will do our part when we come into rehearsals Sat or Sundays.

Also, there are just enough chairs to line each side of the green room and have 4 chairs left over. Can we stop stacking ALL the chairs? It takes up what little space we have.

A-freakin-men! There should be a fee for director's who leave the place any dirtier than it was when they arrived. I usually joined my cast at the bar half an hour later so I could clean up, and I gave 'em a real guild trip about it too. By the end, all but one stayed after to help clean up consistently. Its the director's responsibility to set a good example for their cast and make sure the place stays respectable.

Today at Monday improv I found used coffee grounds sitting in one of the trash cans (likely from AA). Chris, can you possibly ask whoever is in charge of AA to throw away the trash? I've complained about them a lot in the past but with good reason. Quite often I will see spilled coffee semi-dry sticking to the ground, candy bar wrappers (sometimes with candy still in them) strewn about the benches/ground, and full bottles of liquor spilled into the trash bins. It's disgusting.

But again, I don't solely blame AA.

Amen my brutha!

When I direct a show I consider it my personal responsibility to leave the theatre clean.

By the by, another cleanliness issue is the bizarre practice that someone has of always leaving sugar on every available surface; I understand why a shaky AA hand might spill it, I don't understand why someone wouldn't then clean it up.

I think a cleaning charge is excellent idea but then who is going to be the one constantly checking to see what mess was left by whom so that the fee can be aptly applied?

Thanks,
Kristi
