Like the alarmist subject heading? I did.
Alright, here's where I'm at with the board.
Its way too complex, and not nearly as prone to chaos as the old one, that is sad.
I'm a little hesitant to give up the superior moderation features and the integration with the cool user profiles that we've got set up on this site, so unless I get mass protests I'm going to see what I can do about simplifying this board to make it as easy to use as possible.
So far I've done this:
- Made it all public. If you don't feel like setting up a user profile you can still post and do all that stuff.
- Killed all the other rooms and categories. Now its just one big board.
I'm working on making it threaded like the old board, where post subjects appear on the front page under the posts they are replying to and indented.
Trying to simplify the various features on the actual posting page. Either I will eliminate features or more likely move them down below the main Message area so they are out of the way of people who don't want to use them.
I also want to add a whole tone of emoticons for increased tomfoolery.
So guys gimme your two cents. I want the postboard to be as exciting, easy, fun and foolish as it once was, while still letting the main site have a more professional vibe. What does it need? What does it not need?
And remember, its just like politics ... if you don't vote (or express your opinion), you can't complain. You can post even if you haven't registered yet.
