People say, "Don't worry about being union. Commercials are going non union anyways."

But do people realize what that is doing to us actors in the market? Check this one out that came in today on LA CASTING:

Project Name: Little Tikes Toys II
Project Type: Commercial

$500.+10% per day (if 1 work day) and $1000.+10% for the buyout in perpetuity if left in the final edit of the spot.... OR $400.+10% per day (if 2 + days of work) and $1000.+10% for the buyout, in perpetuity if left in the final edit of the spot.... Some children will be hired as a back-up for the $500.00 +10% ONLY, no buy-out fee. If a child can't be considered for a back-up position please indicate in the submission 'Notes".


This means they can buy you off for as little as $1500 if they buy the spot. And then they get to use that spot as much as they want. Will you be seeing those residuals checks? Nope.

And I shake my finger just as much at the union for making it so hard to get into that 1500 looks awesome to actors in Los Angeles because it's work, it's a paycheck, no matter if it means we don't get health benefits, residuals or protection from a union.
