THEATER WORK DAYS 2008/02/21 18:50 Karma: 6
Morgan and I are going in around 6 or 7 am tomorrow to paint the stage and mop the audience. If anyone wants to pitch in by cleaning the dressing room or sanding and painting the boxes that would be awesome.

These tasks don't necessarily have to be done at that time on Friday. Give a holler to me or Morgan if anyone wants to get into the theater to do some work. With enough advance notice, Morgan or I can let you in and probably help out.

Hey everyone!

Last week we weren't able to get into the theater to do a work party but we have Tuesday morning (2/26/08) to get things done!

I'm going to start painting the stage around 8 or 9 am tomorrow. I know it's early but the paint needs to dry by 5 pm. If anyone wants to help clean the dressing room, mop the house, and paint blocks after or can make it as early as 8 it would be greatly appreciated. I'll probably be there till early afternoon. I know Ivett may join me sometime after 10 am. Pass on this info to anyone else ya can think of.

Special thanks for coming by this week:
Ivett
Ben Trimm
and the new blond ferry in MIDSUMMER (sorry I don't think we've been properly introduced) for making an effort to come. I know we were done by the time you showed up but it means a lot to me that you busted your butt to get there.

We'll be giving the house floor a new coat of paint next Tuesday at 9:00 am, painting a few more blocks and general cleaning.

Even if you can't make it to a cleaning party, you can still do you part by taking the trash to the dumpster, sweeping before and after shows, picking up garbage when you see it, tidying the dressing room any time you are at our beloved artistic home. And encourage your cast mates to pick up all of their belongings and trash after shows.

Well...we learned that painting the floor 6 hours before a show is not enough time despite what the can says. So all painting projects have to be after AA meetings and when the space isn't going to be used all day.

I like to use some fans to help the paint dry. I have a couple if you need them.

Sticky Situation 2008/02/28 17:46 Karma: 6
Some of you may have heard about the wonderful stage situation this week at the theater. It's a sucky ordeal and a lot of people got emotionally hurt. My apologies to the sketch show that it compromised.

I've been trying to make improvements on the theater and FAILING! And also having thankless actors not pitch in and just bitch about the space. I know there are some awesome people who are pitching in, but the ratio of the care and care-nots is huge. I really appreciate the people who put time into the theater and care for the people and the space. You are a great family to have.

It was a REALLY crappy situation with a can of polyurethane that read on the can 5 hours to dry 12 to put furniture on it. We had 7 hours so we were like, go for it. We used polyurethane on the floor of my High School when we did Cookoo's Nest to seal the checker floor we painted and to have it so all we had to to was mop it and it looked shiny and new again. I didn't remember it being like this. Morgan did after I told her what was going on. Even yesterday morning, 24 hours later I was talking to Home Depot because the floor was STILL STICKY! They said that it takes 2-3 days to cure and I was like WHAT!!!!! And they said all we could do was put heat on it. So I went down there to paint flat black over it on a test spot to see how it dries. It did fine so I repainted the stage just before I had to go to work and now I am going back to see if the fire is out.

I understand the sketch show being pissed. But I wasn't out to destroy their show and Chris was protecting that. I hope we didn't lose too many good people over it. The situation 100% SUCKED!

So even today if the stage floor is not working out I am doing another Home Depot suggestion which is paint stripper....and start over....

Thank you Chris for taking the bullets.

Liz,

Santa has a big hug for you. If anyone gives you a hard time you just send them my way.
I fill your pain and I do understand. We have the same problem down here in Orange County.

So, if we do it early enough and DON'T use Polyurethane to seal the paint, we can get away with painting the house floor tomorrow.
If I can get at least one person to help with the house floor tomorrow at 7:00 am, that would be awesome. It's really a matter of one person can't lift the benches all by themselves. We should move the benches, masking tape the edge of the walls (to not get paint on them), mop and dry the floor THEN paint. I'll bring some towels from home so we can dry the floor quickly after mopping. There is some flat dark brown (yay wont show coffee and soda stains) garage floor paint in the back. We used that on the doors of the dressing room and I know it starts to dry withing an hour or two.

After this, I think it's just down to a once over cleaning whenever we can get in there for an hour or two any day of the week to keep the theater up until the next big project. There are a few more boxes to paint, but that will always be an up keep thing every few months. I know people have been asking about the dressing room floor but I know Chris as well as I have talked to Adam Rosencrans (Tres Stage art director) about his plans and want to leave it to him especially since he plans to seal the floor and then paint it and I know he brings in pros to do his work.

Pass on the word. I understand if ya can't make it because it's a weird time. I just need at least one person to help.
